When a friend of mine introduced me to golf many years ago, I wasn’t overly impressed and asked him what he saw in the game. He said, “Well, golf means different things to different people. To me, it’s mostly about being away from my busy life for a few hours, being one with nature, and talking to some good friends.” That made sense to me, but I quickly found out what he meant as I became a golfer, too, taking lessons and burying myself in golf equipment reviews.

People do take up golf for different reasons and it does mean something different to almost every player. For some, like my friend, it’s relaxing on a beautiful course and enjoying nature and the scenery. To others it’s a great way to meet with clients and close deals. Some just enjoy an occasional round. Others get hooked and pursue mastery of the game with single-minded passion. But no matter what attracts you to the game of golf, we all have something in common: we need equipment. Lots of it.

Initially I had a real problem with that. Golf shops intimidated me. I didn’t really know much about golf clubs, golf shoes or even golf bags and I was embarrassed about my lack of knowledge. Whenever I went to a pro shop, everyone else seemed to be an expert, knowing everything about golf, except me. I didn’t understand half of what sales people were talking about and I didn’t even understand many of their questions. So I felt they were talking down to me and I resented that.

So I began reading golf books and magazines and asked golfing buddies for advice. I ended up with a good set of clubs, found that some balls worked better for me than others (I am a Titleist man), and spent a small fortune on golf equipment (Nike made a small fortune off me) I did or did not need. Truth be told, my lack of knowledge and my being ill at ease with the sales people in the pro shops probably kept me from enjoying the game as much as I should have.

All of this changed in the past few years. I am an online person. To me, finding accurate and unbiased golf equipment reviews on the web was just what I had been waiting for. I am not talking about just online golf stores or golf bulletin boards. What helped me were sites done by golfing enthusiasts who simply wanted to share their knowledge with others. See, while I used to be aware of the likes of Burton or Ogio or Ping, there wasn’t anyone who told me who truly made the best bag for me. I was told some of the training aids out there really worked while others were a waste of money but I didn’t know which was which. I knew of amazing advancements in golf carts and I had even heard of new technologies like golf gps, but I didn’t know what was valuable information and what was just marketing.

For me, the emergence of golf enthusiast sites with golf equipment reviews made all the difference. I love reading reviews written by real people as opposed to just sales spiels, and I love how some of those sites explain it all in terms that make sense. I love to read and learn, and these days I totally rely on golf sites that are not only entertaining, but also provide me with the reviews I need and even recommendations on where to get the best deals.

Like almost any sport, if you have the best equipment then you have a good chance of being better at the sport than if you had poor equipment. This can easily be said for golf. If you have the best golf equipment, the best golf clubs, then you will most likely be able to play better. But for many people, money plays a major part in the type of golf equipment they can afford. So how can you find an affordable golf equipment supply store and buy your clubs for less money that high street stores?

Well, the advancement of technology has given us the perfect place to find all the golf equipment you need, without having to pay a fortune. Yes, we are talking about internet. Almost all major golf stores and golf suppliers have their own websites. The prices at these websites are always dramatically lower than you will find in your local golf store. This is because there is no middle man putting up the prices to keep for themselves. That’s why you can save a lot of money by going direct to the supplier.

The other major place to find affordable golf equipment is to use the popular auction websites, such as eBay. This is a great place to find not only second hand golf equipment but also brand new equipment too. In fact, many of the major retailers and suppliers will have their own eBay store. I bet you didn’t even know that did you? Just go and have a quick browse online and you will clearly see that there are huge savings to be made.

The main thing when looking for affordable golf equipment is to always do your research first. See how much an item is selling for in the local store, then look online and see how much you can save. It is almost guaranteed that you will be buying almost all your golf equipment online from now on!

The other day I was watching a Golf Channel commercial where Tiger Woods was conducting a clinic. As part of the promo they played a quote from him where he said, “There is no one way to swing a golf club”. Boy did that start me thinking.

You know how differently one pro golfer may swing compared to another (Jim Furyk vs Tiger). Yet they both score well and are highly ranked in the World Golf Standings. How can that be?

There is a golfer at our course who I thought of immediately when Tiger made that comment. We took notice of him some time back as he was normally on the course about the same time we played. He has the most quirky swing I have ever seen. So quirky that our group would often make humorous comments about it.

This fellow would take the club back to waist high, then pause, turn back, then pause again, then up to the top and another even longer pause and finally he would swing down and thru where he would hold the finish position for the longest time. He did all of this while appearing as stiff and mechanical as is possible for a human being. He reminds me of a human version of “Iron Byron”, the robot used by the USGA & manufacturers to test golf equipment.

As luck would have it, this one Saturday, Dooley Duffer and I were paired with him and his friend. We didn’t realize it was the guy with the quirky swing until the first tee. As he began to take some practice swings to warm up there it was that herky jerky, stiff as a board, mechanical looking, robotic “Iron Byron” swing.

Dooley and I did all we could to hold back the chuckles. Mumbling to each other about how we were expecting a long round with this guy chasing his errant shots all over the place. We couldn’t have been more wrong!

This guy kept the ball in the fairway and hit most of the greens. He scored well on nearly every hole. Even shooting 2 under par on the back side! All with that quirky “Iron Byron” swing. He really shut us up.

How? He was able to repeat the swing over and over. As Dooley said later, “The ball did not care about all of that herky jerky stuff in his backswing, just the angle of the clubface at impact.” And that guy certainly had a repeating golf swing in spite of or maybe because of all that herky jerky motion.

Here is what Jack Moorehouse, author of “How to Break 80…”, has to say on the subject of repeating golf swings.

The more we can repeat the same swing, the more often we will achieve a predictable result -the secret to lower golf handicaps. To build a repeatable swing, we must:

Stay connected Set the club on the correct plane.

Staying connected is a common factor found among all good repeating golf swings. The shoulders, arms, hands, and club should all move away from the ball in unison. Hinging or cocking the wrists sets the club on the correct plane, which keeps the clubface square to the path of the golf swing.

Two other important essentials in building a repeatable swing are:

Swinging to the top of the slot and Retaining power in the swing.

If the club’s shaft is horizontal to the ground, it should be parallel to the target line. The angle of the club should match the angle of the forearm while maintaining the original spine angle and head position. Settle the weight smoothly on the front side and start unwinding the upper body. The right elbow should be dropped down to the side.

Now I am not suggesting here that you work on developing a swing like “Iron Byron’s”. I think most of us would find it even more difficult to repeat his swing than a more conventional swing. That is because for most of us the conventional swing is the more repeatable golf swing.

Dooley went to the range one day and tried the “Iron Byron” swing just for kicks so to speak. He kept hitting the ball with a high fade/slice. All the more admiration for the guy who made it work so well. At least for that round that very unconventional swing was a repeatable swing. And that repeating swing made all the difference between his scorecard and ours.

If you need sound golf swing instruction to help you develop a repeating golf swing and lower your handicap then I would like to point you in the direction of How to Break 80. It is far better than struggling on your own or trying to groove an unconventional repeatable swing like “Iron Byron’s”!

The best thing is that all of this help is less than most lessons with a pro, a single training aide or instructional DVD. He is offering a 90-day money back guarantee, so if you don’t like the book simply return it. But, once you get into his drills, I highly doubt that you’ll need that guarantee.

A repeatable golf swing found here How to Break 80.

You are probably a golf beginner that is why you are interested in looking for effective techniques. The game of golf requires different strategies. That is why you need to research before going to the green. Before you pack your golf equipment, you need to examine how the best players do it. Watching professional tournaments would provide you with how the best golf players do it. Also, it helps to examine how your fellow golf players perform. Try doing the techniques you learn from your golf swing examples and find out what works best for you.

For now, let’s have some golf swing examples. Bear in mind that your golf swing directly affects how you perform in the green. Let’s have Tiger Woods, the world’s best golf player, as an example. You probably ask yourself how you can generate speed as well as power like Tiger Woods. Tiger Woods actually have excellent core strength. What you need to do is to improve your core strength by performing simple but effective exercises.

Eventually, you will notice that your golf drive has improved significantly. Also, you can have a good down swing sequence if you keep your arms as well as your club in front of you for a considerable period. Tiger Woods do this, and this leads him to have an excellent position as well as performance.

During your spare time or even while you are already at the green, take time to practice your golf swing. You should know that there are different golf drills that you can perform. Concentrate on your swing and learn a lot from golf swing examples. Golf, as a game, definitely requires conditioning and strategies.

Once you master the basics of the game though, you should find it easy to make accurate shots most of the time. Even the professional golfers play bad shots, so don’t worry if you make the odd shot which isn’t as you planned. Just focus on the core techniques and most of all, enjoy playing the game!

There’s nothing worse than a bad drive. Some people blame their clubs, but the best golf pros in the world will tell you that after a certain point, there’s no need to upgrade your golf equipment. I’m going to tell you how to improve your swing without buying a new set of clubs.

How do you improve your golf game? You bought the Callaway driver. You spent more for it than your TV and shoes combined. So why does your handicap stay high? The answer to your golf inquiry is actually quite simple, user error. If you’re like most golfers, you don’t need lessons. What you need is a new outlook on the art of golfing.

So, what does someone really need to become as talented at golf as, say, Tiger Woods. I have no idea, how Tiger does what he does. I can knock your handicap down by 2 and show how to get better in small steps. What you need is more focus. I’ve seen folks plan the shot out for ten minutes, stand at the tee, breathe, and slice the ball 300 yards off course right into a water hazard. It’s not about planning, it’s about pushing all the noise in your mind away. Before you ever hit the ball, relax. You should notice the smell of the air, the feel of the sun on your skin. When you drive the ball, don’t hit the ball as hard as you can. Some guys want that perfect 500 yard drive, and don’t make it half that far for forcing the golf ball into submission. The ball was made to fly, and the club to give it air. You are just a part of the dance of golfing. Just let the club and the ball do their job. Strangely, the French have been golfing longer than Americans. There’s an informative article written by one of these classic golf pros, on improving your golf game, if you like the subject you should read clubs de golf. It also covers the subject of driving further.

Golfing is based on natural laws. Social values are mutable. If golfing were based on social values, you would be able to make a golf game work for you. Golfing is based on natural laws, and if you want to win, then you must wait and allow the game to play out. The only thing that’s holding you back is the paradigm you’re using. Don’t force golf to progress, just let it happen.

In golf, it’s important to approach a moment from the right perspective. You can’t force golf. If your handicap is too high, don’t get new clubs, use the old ones you have until you improve. After some practice you’ll see that golf is not in the clubs, it’s in you.

If you know a lot about golf clubs, then you are probably very familiar with the different types of putters that exist. But for those individuals who are new to the game, or those who are not familiar with all of the different types of golf accessories and equipment, they might not be aware that there are three types. There is the blade putter, the mallet putter and the concave putter, also known as the cavity putter. The blade putter is called so because of its straight end. The mallet putter has an engorged head. The concave putter carries its head on the inside, making it easier to hit the target.

Whether you buy them at a golf warehouse, a discount golf outlet or any other golf store, putters help your game by taking those small shots to a level that can become an art form. It is something that you have to feel comfortable with. If you go by price alone, then there is a chance that it may not be the right one, and it will be too late once you take it to the course at the golf club in your locale. You may end up back at the store looking to buy another one. So try it out when you are buying and purchase the one you are most comfortable with.

Custom golf fitters can customize putters to fit your height or style so you will be playing with one that is specifically designed for you. When you pay dearly for your equipment you want to make sure it is perfect for you. At least 50% of the short shots are taken with a putter and they don’t look at all like the ones you use to play miniature golf. There is a big difference now. A lot of technology goes into making the right putter today.

Whether you are a novice at the game of golf or a pro, you can find putters that fit your skill level. Many different putter clubs can be customized especially for the golfer, allowing them to have the best designed golf club to suit their particular golfing needs. When you are purchasing golf equipment and golf accessories from a custom golf store, you will most likely find older versions of golf equipment, but you may also find those that look modern and futuristic. The look of the clubs may be important to many individuals; however, they are normally concerned with finding a putter that will improve their game.

The golf bag is a handy carrier to transport all you need for your day on the fairways. Not only does it carry your golf clubs and putters etc., it also carries your umbrella, cigars, or extra caps that you might need. As you roam around the country club hills, you can either carry everything yourself, have a caddy carry it for you, or drive a golf cart. If your bag has wheels, then you can wheel it along too, as this is what it was designed for. While there are many different types of golf bags on the market, the bags for your golf gear have come a long way since inception.

Some golf bags are made out of leather and some are made out of plastic, yet golf bags serve the same purpose whatever the material. It is just a matter of longevity and looks. If you are concerned about how you dress, then it may also be important to you to have a cool, top quality bag. However, the bags are not made for looks alone, as their job is to carry your golf equipment and accessories, such as your golf gloves, tees and perhaps some of your golf apparel. Some bags may carry more belongings than others. Different styles of bags will have more pockets on them than other ones will. Some may be made out of waterproof materials.

If you are looking for a golf bag that has a lot of storage, and you are always going to be able to utilize a golf cart, then a cart bag is your best bet. These bags have a large amount of storage and are heavier than the carry bags. Of course, the main job of golf bags is to carry your golf clubs. However, wouldn’t it be great to have a bag that can carry everything that you need? If you are choosing to utilize one of the heavier type cart bags, then you will be able to carry not only your clubs, but whatever else you want.

When you are looking to purchase a new golf bag, you want to make sure that you choose one that will fit all of your needs. You may have a preference as to what type of material the bag is made of; however, you should first make sure that the bag can hold everything you need for it to hold first. This type of golf accessory is something that you only purchase a few times within your lifetime, so make sure that you purchase the bag that will work best for you and last for as long as you will need it to.

While all of the golf equipment and accessories that are used in the game are important, possibly the most important is the golf clubs. A good set can be the difference in playing a game that is just so, or winning a championship.

This is the reason why a lot of research has gone into designing golf clubs in the last few years. Manufacturers are working on ways to help improve the clubs, which will improve the game of the golfer. If you are shopping at a golf store, then you will most likely see all of the newest golf clubs that are on the market. However, if you do not want to spend a lot of money, the try shopping for discount golf clubs as well. You might be surprised at what you can find.

Of course, besides the clubs, there are other elements that are important. This encompasses things such as golf shoes, golf gloves, golf apparel, balls, tees and golf training aids. All of these are necessary for the proper playing of the game. The best shoe to buy for golfing is one that fits properly.

This may seem like an obvious idea, but many people wear shoes that pinch while golfing because they did not take the proper amount of time necessary to get the right fit of shoe. The golf balls are even more important than the shoes once you get good at golfing. The best kind of balls to get depend on the type of game you will be playing. Hard balls are great for distance; medium balls are good for both distance and durability. Almost all professional golfers use a soft golf ball for their games.

As you can see, golf equipment is very important for the quality of the game being played. If you want to succeed as a good golfer, then you should take the time and money to invest in good golfing equipment. It could be the difference between a good golf game and a great golf game. Don’t cut yourself short with shoddy equipment.

There is no dearth of Golfing schools, golf instructors , golf advice, even self-help instructional golf material in the media. No matter where you turn, it seems like there is always somebody ready to help you get a better golf swing. But before you start accepting any of this help, you need to think about a few things first.

Separate the Good from the Bad

Like any other sport, the best way to improve at golf is repetitive practice using the proper form. The tricky part is figuring out exactly what the proper form is, and how one goes about acquiring it. The sad truth about this industry is that there are a lot of pseudo-experts and unproven techniques out there. If you apply the wrong advice, you could end up with a worse swing than you had in the beginning.

But isn’t that what golf instructors are for? Don’t they correct your mistakes and set you on the right path? Bad habits are difficult to overcome, so it is really important to avoid developing new ones. If you take bad advice, it only hampers your progress as you will have to unlearn these bad habits before you can start learning the good ones. Some so called “training” can hurt your golf game permanently.

Spotting the Genuine Article

There is no hard and fast way to identify bad advice, but certain things should ring alarm bells. Good advice works for lots of people, so ask around. Try to contact other players who have either been taught by the same instructor or have benefited from the proposed technique.

Look at the credentials of the instructor, if he plays a good game that’s ok, but it is also important to see if he has any formal education. People who have no sports medicine background may be recommending potentially harmful drills without them realizing it. Well meaning individuals have caused great harm before.

Managing the Tangibles

Goal setting is a key component of any training exercise, so what is the goal of this activity? It should not be as nebulous as: ‘you will improve your game’ or ‘you will have better form’. Measurable goals are important, such as average distance traveled by the golf ball, increased accuracy of shot trajectory, or increased golf ball speed.

Some of the problems you encounter may be related to your golf equipment. It pays to ensure that you are using the correct club length for your height, good fitting shoes, and appropriate clothing. You must also practice in a setting which hampers your movements. If you are in an area that is too crowded, this may prevent you from fully realizing your swing.

Keep Your Mental Game Pure

Finally, find instructors and training tips that fit your personality. Golf like any other game involves a lot of psychology, so your mental game must be improved as well. Try to figure out what kind of personality you are and what mental traits you need to develop in order to acquire a better golf swing. This is often the major stumbling block for athletes, be they professional or amateur, so do not feel weird about it.

In the end you will not only get a better game, you may even get a better you.
