If you like so many other people around the world love to play the game of golf and need some tips on golf swing, then you’ve come to the right place. In golf the only obstacle you need to worry about as far as method goes is yourself. Once you learn how to master the multitude of different approaches you can take to your swing, you’re all set. This article will outline some of the things you can do to improve your golf swing and have an all together better game which is what any golfer wants.

The first thing we’ll talk about is pacing, which is considered to be one of the most important aspects of the golf swing. This simple means you will want to consider the speed at which you swing your club when you’re playing. Just because you take a hard or fast swing does not necessarily mean your ball will go farther or fulfill your desired goal. Just because your swing is fast doesn’t mean the ball will travel farther, which is a common mistake among beginners.

Obviously an important aspect of golf is the distance which your balls travels, a huge part of the game. In the end this is what matters and it’s what is important. Another common mistake many golfers make is that a hard swing means lots of distance which also isn’t true, especially if your goal is a short distance away. When you consider pacing and speed, it’s similar to playing billiards, just look at how they time their hits and use pacing to their advantage. The swings you take on the green should be controlled and well thought out, you don’t want to swing based on aggression or frustration. Not using your arms when you swing is a helpful hint in taking controlled swings that will send your ball where you want it, whether it be a short or a long distance away.

Any golf enthusiast understands the importance of having proper setup and address position before making a swing. Everything must be parallel to your target and you must achieve the right kind of focus before you go and swing your club. If you have problems with your swing, there are lots of golf swing trainers available. They help ensure that everything is in proper order so you can maximize your golf game.

As a golfer, you must understand that you must align your feet, knees, hips, arms, and shoulders with your target. You must learn how to grip the club in such a manner that you do not feel like choking or squeezing something. You will know that you are properly setup once you achieve a balanced position. This simply means that you will not topple over if someone pushes you.

Golf swing trainers will also help you understand the mechanics of the upswing. You must remember that the power of your golf swing largely depends on the torque you are able to create with your body. A proper swing involves a nice shoulder turn and a hinge that will bring your club to the right place. Once you are able to completely wind up your body, you will be able to maximize torque and deliver a complete downswing.

Swing trainers will also help you develop your downswing. During your downswing, you will feel some kind of release in your hips and shoulders. Your wrists will unhinge in a relaxed manner and carry your ball away while your arms go down to impact. You must remember not to decelerate during your downswing as this can negatively affect the accuracy and distance of your golf swing. Do not forget to follow through.

If you want to improve on your golf swing, it is important that you seek help from golf swing trainers. Doing so, you will realize that you already understand the ins and outs of a golf swing which can greatly affect your progress on improving in this game.

Golf, as anyone who plays will tell you, is a complex game to master, you need to think about every aspect of your stance, movement, balance, swing and concentration in order to be able to play well and this can sometimes take years. As with any type of sport people who play golf have to do so regularly in order to retain any skills that they might have otherwise they will get rusty and this will lead to a drop in their handicap.

One part of playing golf well is the golf swing speed – get it right and you have a good foundation to build the rest of your game on, get it wrong and you will be spending too much time on the fairway and not on the green. Golf swing speed is the speed at which a person can swing their golf club when hitting it as hard as they can, this shot is normally used when teeing off and can make or break a game of golf. And this is one of the reasons that so much emphasis is put on the right golf swing speed.

So that the ideal golf swing speed can be reached golfers will practise tirelessly however to get the best golf swing speed you should not try to hit the ball as hard as you can. It is a common misconception that to have a great golf swing you have to bring the ball down on the downstroke as hard as possible. This is not true. It is far better to perfect your stance and balance and then use these two basics to create a golf swing speed that is perfect. Doing this will allow you to have greater control over your swing which will, over time increase the speed of the golf swing until you are happy with it.

The other day I was watching a Golf Channel commercial where Tiger Woods was conducting a clinic. As part of the promo they played a quote from him where he said, “There is no one way to swing a golf club”. Boy did that start me thinking.

You know how differently one pro golfer may swing compared to another (Jim Furyk vs Tiger). Yet they both score well and are highly ranked in the World Golf Standings. How can that be?

There is a golfer at our course who I thought of immediately when Tiger made that comment. We took notice of him some time back as he was normally on the course about the same time we played. He has the most quirky swing I have ever seen. So quirky that our group would often make humorous comments about it.

This fellow would take the club back to waist high, then pause, turn back, then pause again, then up to the top and another even longer pause and finally he would swing down and thru where he would hold the finish position for the longest time. He did all of this while appearing as stiff and mechanical as is possible for a human being. He reminds me of a human version of “Iron Byron”, the robot used by the USGA & manufacturers to test golf equipment.

As luck would have it, this one Saturday, Dooley Duffer and I were paired with him and his friend. We didn’t realize it was the guy with the quirky swing until the first tee. As he began to take some practice swings to warm up there it was that herky jerky, stiff as a board, mechanical looking, robotic “Iron Byron” swing.

Dooley and I did all we could to hold back the chuckles. Mumbling to each other about how we were expecting a long round with this guy chasing his errant shots all over the place. We couldn’t have been more wrong!

This guy kept the ball in the fairway and hit most of the greens. He scored well on nearly every hole. Even shooting 2 under par on the back side! All with that quirky “Iron Byron” swing. He really shut us up.

How? He was able to repeat the swing over and over. As Dooley said later, “The ball did not care about all of that herky jerky stuff in his backswing, just the angle of the clubface at impact.” And that guy certainly had a repeating golf swing in spite of or maybe because of all that herky jerky motion.

Here is what Jack Moorehouse, author of “How to Break 80…”, has to say on the subject of repeating golf swings.

The more we can repeat the same swing, the more often we will achieve a predictable result -the secret to lower golf handicaps. To build a repeatable swing, we must:

Stay connected Set the club on the correct plane.

Staying connected is a common factor found among all good repeating golf swings. The shoulders, arms, hands, and club should all move away from the ball in unison. Hinging or cocking the wrists sets the club on the correct plane, which keeps the clubface square to the path of the golf swing.

Two other important essentials in building a repeatable swing are:

Swinging to the top of the slot and Retaining power in the swing.

If the club’s shaft is horizontal to the ground, it should be parallel to the target line. The angle of the club should match the angle of the forearm while maintaining the original spine angle and head position. Settle the weight smoothly on the front side and start unwinding the upper body. The right elbow should be dropped down to the side.

Now I am not suggesting here that you work on developing a swing like “Iron Byron’s”. I think most of us would find it even more difficult to repeat his swing than a more conventional swing. That is because for most of us the conventional swing is the more repeatable golf swing.

Dooley went to the range one day and tried the “Iron Byron” swing just for kicks so to speak. He kept hitting the ball with a high fade/slice. All the more admiration for the guy who made it work so well. At least for that round that very unconventional swing was a repeatable swing. And that repeating swing made all the difference between his scorecard and ours.

If you are a beginner golfer then you know that to make the ball go a long way you need to hit the ball hard and fast, Right?? Well yes and no.

The golf swing basics involve a number of aspects that you need to get right. The speed of your golf club head is only one of these aspects.

There are about a half dozen elements in the basics of a good golf swing and while every one will do them slightly differently, sticking to the golf swing basics will help prevent the beginner golfer from thinking too hard about their golf swing.

The Basics of the Golf Swing

The first part of your golf swing is the mental part. Many would say that this is where most games are won and lost on the golf course. For the starter golfer you never want to look stupid on the first tee when you thwack your ball into the trees or the nearest lake. You need to blank out all thoughts and surroundings when addressing the golf ball and just think about where you plan the ball to go. Do not give any thought time to how you will feel if you miss. Just focus on your shot.

One of the pressurizing aspects of taking a golf shot is that you are always being watched. You have your opponents and maybe the following group watching your every move. You must ignore all of this outside attention and just work through your shot. Make it clear what you are going to do and then do it.

Because you are a beginner it will not always work but that is not the issue. If you are in charge mentally then you will eventually get more right than you will wrong.

Controlling Your Swing Speed for More Accuracy

This is the single simple most important golf tip that you can adopt to improve you accuracy and distance. Control your golf club. If you are swinging your golf club so fast that it is not under full control then you will never get the distance you need. Swing your club as fast as you can while still being in control of the moment of contact. By slowing your club down by up to 30% speed you will actually increase your distance. This is as a result of better contact with the sweet spot of the golf club face.

Whether you are a hooker or a swinger of the golf ball this slowing down of the golf club will ensure better distance and very quickly reduce your banana golf shots. Your swing technique will improve as you take control of the pace of your golf swing.

Another mistake with the speed of your swing is to try and speed up in the last 18 inches before contact with the golf ball. By doing this you will again lose the straight shooting you are looking for. You must make your swing smooth on the backswing and smooth and controlled on the downswing. The club head will naturally gain momentum on the way down. There is no need to force it.

Once you know you have control of the clubhead then you can consider trying to add more speed to your swing. But do not think about the speed when you are hitting the ball. Think about being in control of your swing

The golf swing can be one of the most challenging things to learn and master. It requires commitment and effort on your part to put in the practice necessary to learn how to swing a golf club effectively. There are a few basic things you need to keep in mind in order to learn the golf swing and it is recommended that you take it slow and learn one thing at a time.

Once you feel comfortable with a particular aspect of the golf swing then move on to the next step. The golf swing can be broken down into the grip, stance, backswing, downswing and follow through. Let us look at each of these elements of the swing more closely.

- The Grip

There are basically three kinds of ways to grip the golf club. It is important to spend the time necessary to master your grip as this is a critical aspect of the golf swing. If your grip is incorrect it will affect your performance negatively even if everything else is fine.

The first kind of grip is the interlocking grip, this is where the index finger of the left hand and the small finger of your right hand interlock or hook each other. If you have short hands or your hands are very thick then this kind of grip may be the best for you.

The next kind is the overlapping grip. With this grip the little finger of the right hand will sit on top of the index finger of the left hand. You need strong wrists and arms to use this grip. Test each grip method and decide on the one that feels most comfortable to you.

The baseball grip is commonly used by most beginners. The index finger of the left hand and the little finger of the right hand do not overlap or interlock but they do make contact. This is basically as the name suggests the way you would grip a baseball bat.

- The Stance

The important point to remember with the stance is to keep your weight balanced and your feet position getting wider up to shoulder width as the club you are using gets longer. So for the driver you will want the most stability thus a wider stance with your legs shoulder width apart is ideal. Also the ball position should start at the center of your stance for a wedge and move up to the heel of your left foot for the driver.

- The Backswing

One of the biggest mistakes that beginners make is that they rush their backswing. Make sure that you take a slow relaxed backswing. You are better off being too slow than too fast when it comes to the backswing. Also work on keeping your left arm as straight as possible throughout the backswing.

- The Downswing

An important key to the downswing is to keep your head in the same position or as close as possible to its original location throughout the downswing. Make sure that you do not try to use your right arm to try to generate power. Instead you should get the feeling that you are pulling the club with your left arm. The power will come from the leverage that is created between the angle between the club and you left arm. The longer you can hold this angle the more power you will create.

- The Follow Through

At impact make sure that your head is behind the ball and keep your head down and let it come up with your right shoulder. Keep in mind also that at no point in the golf swing should you feel like you need to add power or strain yourself. Stay relaxed and you will soon develop an effortless swing that is not only accurate but also generates a lot of power and distance.

Take some time to learn the fundamentals of the golf swing before you go out on the course. Spend a week or two practicing your grip, stance and basic swing movements. Once you are ready to trust your mechanics then you can head out on the course and focus on your targets. When you are on the course do your best to stay away from thinking about swing mechanics and just concentrate on your targets. Train your swing and then trust it, this is the best way to get lower golf scores.

A golf club’s swing weight helps the player to be able to feel the club head hit the ball. This helps each of the clubs to have the same feel for continuity purposes.

Low lofted iron head’s, such as a 3-iron, have a much lower weight than a higher iron head, but the irons feel the same weight, due to the increased length of the lower irons club. The sand wedge is the only exception to this rule, as it needs the higher weighted club head to move through sand and pop the ball into the air.

Graphite and steel shaft golf wood swing weights vary because of the different compositions of the shafts themselves. While playing golf with steel shaft clubs, you will feel more of the club head than you will with the graphite shafts.

One driver golf tip to keep in mind is that when deciding to change your golf club’s shaft, you need to keep in mind that the weight will change on the club itself, and therefore the feel of the club will change also. You may need to change the weight of the club head itself for the club to retain its feel.

Higher swing weights help players who have a faster swing tempo to control their downswing a little better, while lighter swing weight’s help those players whose tempo is a little slower.

If you are having trouble with feeling the club head hit the ball, then you may want to try some golf clubs with a higher swing weight. Who knows, you may play golf better, too!

Although initially learning how to perfect your swing or your game on the putting green may seem complex, it is surprisingly far from it. With some simple golfing tips and techniques to change up the way you play golf you could be supporting an impressive golf handicap in no time.

Even though you might think you are a terrible golfer because you always seem to hit an embarrassing slice or miss an easy five foot putt there are few things you tweak in your game that can improve that number on the scorecard at the end of eighteen. One of these attributes in your swing that you should take a look at that you might not even realize plays an important part in your golf swing is what you are doing with your hips.

Hip rotation in your swing is extremely important and can make the difference between slicing the ball into bushes or smacking the ball 300+ yards down the fairway. The best advice one can give you about hip rotation is to watch the pros during their swing, especially Tiger Woods who does it better than anyone in golf today. You will notice that their hip rotation is a major factor in their accuracy and distance on their drives.

I am not saying you are going to be a golf pro anytime soon, but once you realize the importance of good hip rotation in your swing and start applying it to your own you will definitely be reaping the benefits.

The single biggest golf swing tip instructions that golfer’s want the most is in dealing with slicing the golf ball. It’s a problem that 80% – 90% of all golfers face.

Does this sound familiar? You aim way left and hit your tee shot, only to watch it fly way right? How do you go about stopping that dreaded slice? This is exactly what you’re about to learn today. And in doing so you’ll begin to enjoy the game of golf like it is meant to be.

Slicing is caused mainly from these three areas: the swing plane, clubhead path, and the golf grip. It’s not caused by where you are aiming, or even how you’re standing. Once you make the adjustments in these three areas, you’ll put an end to the problem.

First, let’s look at the swing plane. Most golf swing instructions don’t touch on the swing plane, but that is the number reason for slicing the ball.

The swing plane for every golf club will be different. What I mean by that is if you take your driver and your 9-iron out and hold them at the address position, you’ll quickly see that the 9-ron is closer to your body. This means that the swing plane is going to be different for the 9-iron than the driver. The 9-iron will be more upright and feel straighter up and down, while the driver feels flatter.

The cause of most slicing problems is due to golfers swinging the driver on a steeper swing plane like the 9-iron. When you swing the club too steeply, the result is an outside in swing pattern and a slice. The key is to flatten out the swing plane which will create a straighter shot. This will take some practice, but continue to make adjustments and you’ll find the correct swing plane.

If this doesn’t eliminate the problem, then work on the clubhead path. The clubhead path needs to be square as it goes through the impact zone. This may require you to adjust the position of the club in your hands to be a little more to the left. Again, make the adjustments a little at a time while on the range.

Finally, the golf grip may be the reason for slicing. A weak grip inevitably causes the ball to go right. Try strengthening your grip by rolling your hands a little to the right, which causes the “V” to point more to the right of your face. A weak grip is the second most common reason for slices.

Of course, these golf swing tip instructions are not as detailed as they can be. You can find more detailed tips and instructions at the end of this article. With these simple tips and a little practice on the range you should begin noticing improvement immediately.
